As a Hebrew sister of mine so graciously put it, “Words mean stuff!”

Recall each Hebrew letter has several related meanings. For example, the Aleph א was originally the picture an ox head which represented strength, power, and leader and the mem מ is a picture of water and represents water, chaos, mighty, and blood. Together אם spells the Hebrew word for mother, which is strong water or glue. This describes the function of the mother in a family unit as the glue of the family. It also describes the mother as strong and mighty! Likewise, the father is the אב or the strength of the house.

Most primary roots can be easily understood and defined using their pictographic letters. In this part of the lesson, we will observe how the pictographic Hebrew provides us with concrete meanings of abstract English terms.
